Season Recap 2009/2010

rings2009/2010

Even though it has been awhile since I last wrote it is not due to not being busy, more about being too lazy to write. The most exciting season of my career peaked with the Olympics in Vancouver, and even though I wasn’t able to perform up to my expectations, the games were an unbelievable experience. It was a season of many firsts for me - first European World Cups, first major Championships at the Olympic Games, first Senior National Overall title, and first time winning the FIS regional spot to earn World Cup starts for the start of the 2010/2011 season. With all of this going on there has been something else I have been doing a lot of… sitting on a plane! As I was flying down to Costa Rica for a vacation with Brittany I counted over 40 flights in the past 12 months.

Here are some photos from my amazing holiday in Costa Rica with Brittany. We had a blast! It seems as though every skier I know or read about was down there which is pretty funny but I can see why.

With the excitement of the Canmore world cup finally coming to an end I thought it would be a great time to share my experience from the past weekend. With the world coming for the final world cup stop prior to the Olympics, there was great excitement surrounding the event. The weekend consisted of a 10/15 km skate race on Friday and a classic sprint on Saturday. I was excited to have the opportunity to race on the very familiar trails of the Canmore Nordic center. My main focus was the classic sprint (prep for the Olympics) but I choose to race both days, seeing as I feel I race well after a race the day before and because 15km skate has been a good event for me before.

First off all I want to thank all of my sponsors and supporters for helping me along the way to the Olympics in Vancouver. I was officially named to the Olympic team today and I am very excited to do Canada proud.

With it being that time of the year the last two weeks have been filed with lots of training. After a couple easier weeks following my Haig camp it was time to ramp it up a bit.

Summertime!

Since the end of my training camp on the Haig there has been lots going on and time has been flying by. It has been a great treat for summer to finally arrive, with many days in the high 20’s, making spending many hours outside a great treat. After my big training block came to an end I had a couple of easier week and was able to do some different activities which were lots of fun.

Haig Glacier Camp

Last week I finished up the third week of a hard training block by getting back on snow up at the Haig Glacier. With the two weeks previous having both large amounts of volume and hard strength my body was looking forward to the change of pace, and being able to ski once again.
